As part of Youth Music’s 10th Anniversary more than 70 of the world’s biggest musicians and visual artists who have been photographed by Rankin have created an original piece of artwork based on one of the photographer’s iconic portraits.
Two years in the making, the Destroy / Rankin project involves musicians and visual artists including Michael Stipe, U2, Jarvis Cocker, Ian Brown, Kylie Minogue, Debbie Harry, Marianne Faithfull, Douglas Gordon and Damien Hirst.
The work will be on show at Phillips De Pury London, for free, between 9th - 21st November 2009. Collectors can bid online for the work from 7th November, or attend the Open Auction on the 14th November to bid for 25 key pieces.
The Destroy / Rankin book is on sale via the website, and contains five especially commissioned essays on the relationship between art and music by the destroy artists and key cultural commentators, including Michael Stipe, Jefferson Hack, Mike Figgis, Marianne Faithfull, Jarvis Cocker, Peter Saville, Beth Ditto, Miranda Sawyer, Rankin and Damien Hirst.
