During the course of their collaboration, makeup artist Alex Box and Rankin have created images that blur the boundaries between makeup and art, and deconstruct the conventions of beauty in fashion.
In the first ever extensive collection and exhibition of her work, Alex Box gives full access to images which unsettle and intrigue. Using everything from pigment to post-its to transform her models, Alex opens up the human form to a fantastical and expressive range of new possibilities. Her images show mysterious, moving and exotic creatures, seemingly transformed from mere humans to otherworldly fantasies.
Hosted at Annroy, Rankin's new gallery space in Kentish Town, the range of inspirations covered in the images is vast - from Berlin cabaret to kaleidoscopic clown. Each creation is an instinctive response to the moment, the model and the mood, forming a wonderful expression of the many faces of beauty.
The exhibition runs from 23rd October to 18th December 2009; Monday to Friday; 11 am - 5 pm.
The accompanying exhibition book, 'Alex Box', can be bought at all good bookshops RRP £50.
